No season has as magnificent sunsets as summer.

If you are feeling stressed out, sharing a sunset with someone that you love being around can be a great way to destress. Tweet This!

Instead of worrying about all of the things going on in your life, you can just sit and enjoy the beautiful colors as the sun goes down.

 Plan out your summer days and select specific days or weekends that you want to share a gorgeous sunset with someone you love.  It could be your partner, your best friend, your mom/dad, or just you!

This sunset-gazing destress plan is a simple and practical “staycation” that won’t break the bank or require specific plans for each day.

Your partner would definitely agree that this is one of the best remedies for stress for both of you and he might even know of just the right spot to enjoy the perfect sunset together…sipping your favorite drink.

Forget about the noise going on in your head. Allow the stressful thoughts to float away. Just let go of all the pressures.

You’re in one of the most soothing places when you get a front row seat to a beautiful sunset. No worries exist there!     

Best Remedies for Stress #2. Go on a picnic

Start by thinking about elements of nature that you love to help you decide the perfect location for a picnic.

Maybe beautiful gardens bring you back to nature and help you feel peaceful. Or the view of majestic mountains across the skyline provides you with a feeling of wondrous serenity.

Incorporating your favorite aspects of nature in your neighborhood will bring a natural calm to your soul.

Next,  pack a healthy lunch and then take a short hike out to your favorite park. Not only will you get to eat some delicious food, you’ll also be able to enjoy nature, which is one of the best remedies for stress.

Follow these tips to get the most benefit:

Be comfortable. Dress comfortably and take plenty of beverages and snacks. This is easy if you’re driving the car to your special picnic spot. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Avoid distractions. If you take your cell phone, turn it on silent mode to avoid being alarmed by its ringtone. For now, you plan to exchange your own world for that of the park, beach, or forest…wherever you select for your ideal picnic spot.picnic2

Listen to the sounds that surround you. Maybe the trees are rustling in the wind, the birds are singing, or you hear an animal call.  I live within a 5 minutes drive from a beach, so that is my favorite picnic spot.

I love to listen to the sound of the waves crashing ashore.  Nothing brings more calm, peace, and balance to my otherwise busy, rushed life. This is hands down one of the best remedies for stress I focus on every summer.

Whatever you do, make sure to relax

Use visual cues to relax. Leave your world behind. Look around and notice all the green trees. See the dirt path, the tiny ants crawling on a log, and the spider web.

I like to enjoy the tiny stress-free beach crabs as they scurry along the waterfront.  Or the carefree birds flying around that remind me of the balance and true beauty of nature.

Steep yourself in the smells of your surroundings. What is that fragrance? A hint of honeysuckle? The woodsy fragrance of pine? Breathe in and breathe out consciously.

The tactile sensations come next. Are the leaves of a bush lightly brushing your arms? Are you challenged to keep your footing on the bumpy path? If you are on the beach ( like I usually am), can you dig your feet into the sand and enjoy the sensation of the sand on your feet?

Physically coming into contact with nature is an important part of the experience, in addition to the sights, sounds and smells.

Look for Nature’s Stress Relievers

Look for the critters around you. If you are in the woods maybe you’ll spot a raccoon or a squirrel. Observing other mammals is fascinating and you’ll learn something every time you watch an animal.

Notice the birdcalls. Perhaps two or more birds are talking to one another.

Be aware of what the air feels like. You can most likely tell that summer is here. It’s a clean, fresh, crisp feeling with a hint of heat in most places. Maybe the sun is shining or perhaps you’re deep in a thicket of trees where it’s dank and mossy.

You can either go with just your partner (picnic for two), or you can recruit your friends and family to come out and enjoy the great weather with you, along with a fun meal, in the great outdoors.

Best Remedies for Stress #3. Host a BBQ get together.

If you’re looking for one of the best remedies for stress during the summer, a relaxed BBQ with your friends and family should definitely be on the list.

 Unlike a dinner party that means you’ll have to clean your house up after the get together is over, having an outdoor BBQ means very little clean up.

All you have to do is relax with your guests—very little prep work before or clean up after will be required!

Share planning among family members. This gives everyone ownership of the event, lets them all get in on the fun of planning, and ensures that one person (probably you) isn’t saddled with all the details.

If your kids are old enough, give them an “assignment” where they each help prepare some aspect of the event.  They could even select fun games to play or fun things to do during the get together.stress-management-activities

    Great suggestions. I prefer spring and fall myself. 🙂 And for me to de-stress, I meditate on a regular basis. Ever since I started it a few years back, it’s helped me immensely! And when we go on family vacations, there’s a rule of NO technology whatsoever… is family time! And it’s worked well for us, helped the communication within the family. But one place I do love to go walk around, whether at home or if I’m elsewhere, is the botanical gardens. The beauty and peacefulness of just nature…..such a balm.

      Ann, I am with YOU! NO technology during vacations…but my family would start a revolt. 🙂 So we allow the tabs and cel phones to come along, but we turn them OFF when necessary to spend quality time together. Spending time outdoors enjoying the peacefulness of nature is a gift we can all give to ourselves! The botanical gardens is a great choice! 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

    I love these ideas! And as we both work overnight shifts, we miss the sunset, but we both enjoy the night…..with no lights and the vast star-lit sky above us….so soothing. And once in a while, we do get out for the sunrise. But these are such good alternatives for stress relief, as opposed to other remedies.
