Stress management For Teachers – Talk to your colleagues

No one understands the stresses associated with being a teacher as well as another teacher. Talking about your stress and getting advice or even just commiseration from other teachers who are experiencing the same thing can be very cathartic. Stress management for teachers is often best done in a group setting, where you can rely on other people who are going through the same thing.  

Focus on what you can control

You cannot control if your students do their homework, if their parents sign their permissions slips, if someone is going to come to class sick, etc. Focusing, instead, on what you can control is one of the best tips on stress management for teachers. You can control your lesson plans and the atmosphere in your classroom—so work on those! 

Take breaks throughout the school day

Just like your students need breaks throughout the day, you need breaks, too. If you are not regularly stepping back from teaching and taking a breather, you are going to become the angry, overworked teacher that no student wants to get. Whether you just take a short walk in between classes or periods, or you do a little bit of reading and coloring while the kids are at recess, don’t forget to take a break during the school day.  

Try group therapy

One of the most popular stress management for teachers’ options is group therapy. This is where different teachers can go to meet and hang out. A place they can go and talk to other teachers, learn about their stress problems, and understand what they do to deal with their stress. This gives everyone an opportunity to share their stories and to offer and receive tips and advice on what the best ways of dealing with stress is.

Organize field trips

Another option for stress management for teachers is field trips. Only on these field trips no children go, only the teachers. You can even head to a gorgeous resort, as long as there are a few other teachers going with you. Usually you can sign up for this sort of thing and get a discount, but you can also set up the entire thing on your own with your teacher friends if you want.

Be flexible & realistic

This will enable you to adjust to the differences in your students’ behavior and opening up more opportunities to build an emotional relationship with them. Set realistic goals. When you aim to teach your students something, you need to take it one day at a time. If not, then it will only frustrate you and lead to further stress.

Take care of yourself

Above all, take care of yourself, physically. Your physical body reflects what you put inside it and also how much and how effectively you move it. If you’re not eating well, what can you do to change your diet plan, plan healthy meals, and make it your lifestyle for health and wellness?

If you’re not exercising your body, what types of exercise do you enjoy and can stick to for the rest of your life?

You see, taking care of your physical body isn’t adopting a diet plan on New Year’s Day or joining a trendy gym that you hate going to.
